Artist's Comments
Wow, thanks for all the comments on the last piece I posted. I'll answer all of you as soon as possible, but today I really just wanted to get some painting done.
I couldn't think of a title. So yeah...fight or flight, you decide. Again, I was experimenting with different techniques on this one, and I'm afraid it shows, lol. The head was painted in a different style than the neck and shoulder. And I just noticed that I forgot to put in the veins. XD Oh well. I was trying to make this photo realistic, but I picked a really difficult ref photo for that since the original horse had on extensive tack. So I gave up on that about half way through. Anyways, this was not an attempt at grayscale (I am still working on it though Credits: Photoshop w/ Wacom Bamboo Fun tablet. Approx 18 hours. but! i think the shading on the shoulder could be a little less defined, perhaps to make it look like he's got some meat on those muscles of his. just a little lighter on the shadowing could make all the difference here. perhaps highlight the lightest parts instead of darkening the less defined areas? just my fantastic, rebecca, really fantastic work. -- BLACK TIE AFFAIR 17.3h Warmblood Beautiful painting. I love the color you used. It is very rich. I can see a horse such as this being a saddlebred or standardbred. I love the expression on the face. One of fear or uncertainty. I can see the difference in the painting style, the body I think needs to be as crisp as the mane and eye. I love it though.

Critiques
The first "critique" that appeared to me was his head. It looks a bit rectangular-ish, which could easily be swapped with a deeper cheekbone. Also, his nostril seems a little small, and it lessens the impact that he's really terrified!
I love the detailing in the shoulder muscle, like he's just bunching up to skitter away. My eye keeps going to the one dark shadow at the top, though- possibly, it could be blended in more to keep it "subtle."
Overall this is marvelous!
